Our Empty Moon Zen Online sangha currently meets on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. We are facilitated by Sensei Edward Oberholtzer.
Everyone is welcome. We do not provide introductory instruction during these gatherings. So, please be ready to jump into the rhythms of our community. If you need basic instruction see our page “How to Meditate” for guidance on what you need to begin.
This group gathers people from across North America and beyond. Sometime regulars come from as far afield as England and India. The majority of us are on the West coast of the United States.
Even sitting quietly mostly by ourselves in front of a camera, we are beginning to discover currents of spiritual community.
Please feel invited.
Tuesdays at 7:00pm (Pacific) we gather for a brief liturgy and a single twenty-five minute sit
Saturdays at 9:00am (Pacific) we gather for two twenty-five minute meditation periods with a single five minute break between them. During this time Dokusan (private spiritual practice interviews are offered) This is followed by a Zen liturgy. Which is followed by a dharma talk, book study, or a class as scheduled.
On the first Saturday of the month we usually have an extended Zazenkai (day of meditation). It begins at 6:30am (Pacific) to 7:30am and is followed by a breakfast break. We reconvene at 9:00am for liturgy, Zazen, and Dokusan until 12noon. A one hour break for lunch, and we come back at 1:00pm until approximately 4:00, in Zazen and Dokusan). In July and August, Zazenkai will be a half-day, ending at noon.
